Community and Volunteer Services

The mission of the American Red Cross reads in part, "The American Red Cross, a humanitarian organization led by volunteers..." The Red Cross cannot function without volunteers. They are the core of our organization. Volunteers assist the organization in every program and service we offer to the community. A volunteer Board of Directors governs us; we have volunteers going out in the middle of the night to assist families burned out of their homes; we have volunteers that teach CPR; volunteers take calls from families of service men and women, and volunteers assist at bloodmobiles throughout the county. We are the number one volunteer organization in the world and we have the best, most highly trained volunteers working side by side with our staff every day. Currentl our chapter is in desperate need of increasing our volunteer corps. If you are interested in becoming a Red Cross volunteer please contact our office at (440) 998-1020. Training is free and classes will begin in the spring of 2009.

Health and Safety Services

The American Red Cross has been providing training in Standard First Aid, CPR, Lifeguarding, Water Safety, Automated External Defibrillation, and Babysitting for over 30 years to the community. Industry, business, schools and the general public look to the Red Cross for their training in safety courses because they are assured of quality programs and a trusted name. Certification for courses is recognized by OSHA and other national safety programs. The Red Cross is the only organization with an Ashtabula County headquarters that provide these courses. We employ local people to teach our courses to Ashtabula County residents so they are prepared to save the lives of the residents of this county.
