Effective January 1, 2009 certificates issued in CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer course will now be valid for two years for healthcare providers. Lifeguards will continue to receive annual certification. Healthcare providers are often the first to respond to a life-threatening emergency on the job so it is critical that they have the skills necessary to save a life. American Red Cross training is based on more than 95 years of experience in emergency preparedness and response. And, because the Red Cross works side by side with doctors, nurses, police, fire, and other healthcare professionals in all kinds of emergency situations, we know what they need to be the best first responders they can be.
Created to allow greater flexibility for those who maintain professional-level CPR/AED skills, the new two-year certification is available for doctors, nurses, nursing assistants, EMT's, dental professionals, respiratory therapists, occupational and physical therapists, athletic trainers and other allied health personnel.
